Heishi beads can be made from organic shells or ground and polished stones. This type of bead, generally small and disc or tube shaped, comes from the Kewa Pueblo people of New Mexico. Some Heishi bead specimen date back to around 6000 BCE, and a similar technique was used 30,000 years ago in Africa using ostrich eggshell! Native Americans have been using Heishi to make iconic jewelry long before metals were available. This necklace represents respect for their process & design and for their use of arrowheads in daily life. Turquoise is deeply connected to the water element and is recognized worldwide for its beauty and protective properties!
